Abstract: Experiences and lessons on reservoir sedimentation based on the practice of more than80,000 reservoirs in China are introduced. Selection of a rational operating rule for a reservoir is the first priorit y in dealing with reservoir sedimentation. The operating rule of impounding the clear and discharging the muddy is extensively discussed. The necessity of installation of outlets with sufficient discharge capacity to keep a long-term capacity of a reservoir is presented.
