Abstract: Hydropower project Wloclawek was designed as one of 8 run-off-river dams on the lower Vistula. It was commissioned in 1970. Unfortunately till today it remains as a single project, thus causing many problems during ice formation and transport. The paper includes the description of the project and results of some studies which were carried out during 25 years of its operation. In 1982 due to very unfavorable hydrological and meteorological conditions large ice jam formed on the reservoir resulting in severe flood along the upper part of the reservoir. Conclusions drawn from the experience of design, construction and exploitation of the project concerning ice management are presented.
