Abstract: The principal goal of this study is the development of a vertical two dimensional mathematical model for estimating large-eddy structure and bed erosion downstream of a spillway. The formation of large eddies in the hydraulic jump was visually analyzed using a high velocity video camera. A mathematical model was developed using Marker And Cell Method, which involves SGS (Sub Grid Scale) model and PSI-Cell (Particle Source In Cell) method. The transportation process of sediment and air bubbles were simulated in Lagrangean form, by introducing air bubbles and sediment markers. Schematic movement characteristics of air bubbles were simulated by this numerical model.
