3-D Turbulent Flow Simuiaton for the Tail Waterchannel

Abstract: In this paper, the simulation of 3-D turbulent flow with free surface in the tail water channel is presented. The outflow from the turbine is discharged through the draft tube into the inlet of the tail water channel. The governing equations are the three dimensional incompressible N-Sequations and K-_ε turbulent model equations which are discretized by control volume method to predict the mean flow and turbulence. The method uses to predict the free water surface pro-file is based on the concept of a fractional volume of fluid~ ([4]) (VOF). This model is used to sim-ulate the turbulent flow field in the tail water channel of Fengman Hydropower Plant in China.
