Abstract: Pumped-storage powerplant Zarnowiec of the capacity 716 MW was put into operation in 1983. Artificial upper reservoir was constructed on the top of the nearby hill. Natural lake of postglacial origin of the volume 118 mln m~3 was used as the lower reservoir. Several changes were introduced to the lake to fulfill new functions. Comprehensive studies of the lake have been carried out to indicate the changes resulting from the operation of pumped storage powerplant. These studies included: hydrodynamics, thermal regime, hydrochemistry, hydrobiology, and fishery state. It was found out that important influence on lake water quality has the management of its catchment.
