Abstract: This paper presents three-dimensional numerical analysis of turbulent flows around submerged groins. A finite volume method is employed to discretize the governing equations. A k-εmodel modified by Zhu-Shih is used to simulate the turbulent momentum transport. The numerical results show the flow pattern at the tip and behind the groins possess a strongly three dimensional feature. Reynolds stress distribution and the budget of the turbulent kinetic energy are discussed for the understanding of the turbulent transport processes. The bed shear stress distribution which is directly related to the transport of bed material has also been investigated.
