Abstract: Advances in measurement techniques have led to re-examination of simple and complex open channel flows. The simplest flow that exhibits 2D turbulent structures is uniform, fully developed flow in a wide channel. The attainment of such a flow is a non-trivial problem. The flow development length is about 240 hydraulic radii, starting from a fairly uniform entrance flow.
