Abstract: A3-dimensional numerical model describing the dilution in the near field around dense verti-cal jets in a cross flow is formulated and validated against laboratory experiments. The vali-dation shows that that the model well reproduces the flow pattern, though the dilution is un-derestimated by 20%. The model is applied to a case study where the dilution from two vertical jets at an angle in shallow water is described. It is demonstrated that a 20% increase in dilution is possible. It is concluded that the model may become a valuable tool in diffusor design.
