Abstract: This paper desribes a Large Eddy Simulation of turbulent flow in a symmetric compound channel of trapezoidal cross-section. The simulation, which was carried out in order to reproduce the SERC-Flood Channel Facilty experiment 200501, captures the complex interaction between the main channel and the flood plains and predicts the bed stress distribution, velocity distribution, and the secondary circulation.
