Abstract: Theflowthroughtheclearpassageadjacenttotheed geof apermeable vegetated domain in partlyvegetatedopen channelsis characterized by afree shear layer, which is exposedto a lateral flow due to thesecondary currents. In certain configurations. these currentsemergeout ofthevegetateddomain, push away theshearflow and alter itsenerg y level. A feedback mechanism is formed asthe longitudinalvorticitysourcesdepend ontheenergy level. The instability which wasobserved numericall y is discussed here on the background of recent experimental evidence forperiodicbehaviour.
