Abstract: This paper describes the stream-flow velocity relationships that are essential for simulations of dunes in rivers. Simulations of dunes, both experimentally and computationally, must take into account the two different regimes of plane bed and dune-covered bed. Although both have to be considered in the development of a generic river plan-form movement simulation model, the phenomena of both regimes under the condition of a prescribed set of discharge, slope and grain size can only be properly addressed in a numerical model (Thein, 1994). The necessary relationships and corresponding computations are presented.
