Abstract: This paper, focusing on horizontal large-scale eddies in channels with dense vegetation clusters and on the regular surface fluctuation that occurs downstream as a result, exp lains the structure of horizontal flow conditions using analysis based on laboratory experiments and a shallow-water equation devised with a model of horizontal mixing. The results of numerical analysis of horizontal velocity fields, water sur face fluctuation fields and predom inant wavelengths--determined through shallow water equation--accurately correspond to experim ental results and enable predictions of sufficient accuracy.
