Abstract: River improvement works employing conventional engineering methods may destroy the natural healthy environment in riparian areas and may cause adverse effects on the ecosystem. To prevent monotonous artificial environment and to preserve high level of natural condition in riparian areas, construction of embayments along the shore of rivers to provide ecosystem with shelters, foods and nutrients is highly needed
