Experimental Study of the Huaihe River Flood Control Model

Abstract: The Huaihe river is located in east of China. The area of the Huaihe river is 20x104 km^2, and there are 1.04x10^8 poplications living in this region. In the reach from Huaibin to Zhengyangguan of the Huaihe river middle course, There are 10 inflow and a number of detention basins, and diversion channel. The meeting of the flood peak of tributaries is various. It is a complex flood control system. This region has frequently suffered flood dis- aster in history. The river regulation works will be a series of giant project, and expend enormous investment. It is necessary to take an unsteady flow river model for studying river regulation works and flood control. The length of test reach is 201 km. The layout of the Huaihe river flood control model is shown in Fig. 1. The horizontal model scale of Lr=1000 and vertical model scale of Hr=100 was taken. The area of model is 4000 m^2
