Abstract: The character of the river bed gravelsand material is determined by the dynamic parameters of a river. Many characteristics of the river are coded in the river bed material. That's why the tasks of the river hydromechanic are determined by the particle-size analysis. The hand sieved and the machine sieved methods are well known. Using the sieved method in mountainous areas causes many problems due to the transport of samples to laboratories, or exhaustive sieving in the field. That's why a photo method was verified, which is the one method suitable to determine the granulometry, also in extreme conditions in mountainous areas. The photo-method which we verified and modified, has its origin in the V.v.Romanovskij and N.N. Kapitonov method
