Abstract: Detailed two-dimensional velocity distribution measurements were taken by means of an electromagnetic flow meter within a single-pump bay area of a1:10-scale right-angle circulating-water pump-intake model to investigate the effect of cross flow on pump-approach-flow distributions. The pump-approach flow, separated at the right sump entrance corner, produced a strong threedimensional swirling flow which was found to be distorted significantly along vertical planes. The reverse current developed near the lower half of the flow depth along the right sump sidewall and the current toward the pump concentrated along the left sump sidewall over the upper half of the flow depth.
