The Acceleration of Fluid in a Rotating Endless Annular Channel

Abstract: This investigation concerns the accelerated flow in an endless annular channel rotating steadily about its vertical axis. The results obtained reveal the existence of slip in the fluid, the characteristic spin-up time and the growth and decay of the Ekman boundary layer. The final stead y state condition of the accelerated flow in the annulus confirms the characteristic thickness of the Ekman boundary layer.
