Experimental Study on the Fracture Toughness of Ice Layer

Abstract: The diagrams of ice pressure in the ice layer of typical reservoir are drawn according to the observation results. The diagrams are used to control the loading p. Then, fracture mechanics destruction experiment is carried out on the ice specimens (with different T and P•) on low temperature test machine to obtain corresponding points displacement values, thus determines the fracture toughness of the ice and the changing regularity of the fracture toughness according to T and P• under respective conditions. This will provide the necessary experimental data for creating ice pressure calculation model by using energy balance method.
