Abstract: A two dimensional discrete element method has been used to study the ice pile-up process against an inclined plate. In a simulation, an intact ice sheet, driven against an inclined plate, failed into discrete ice blocks which then accumulated into a pile. The pile-up process, forces acting on the plate and the shape of the rubble pile were studied. Simulation results were compared to laboratory experiments.
