Abstract: This paper seeks to investigate the amount of scattering by a pressure ridge. It builds on the work of Williams and Squire (2004), in which results were presented for various different types of ridges (e. g. triangular, rectangular, smooth) but for only a single thickness of ice. Here we study the scattering by a single type of ridge, and look at the effect that changing the thickness of the background ice cover has on the transmission spectrum, with an eye towards the goal of remote sensing of ice thickness. Some approximations that were found to be useful from a computational point of view are also presented.
