Abstract: Ice climatological expert opinions are required for various construction projects at the baltic coast. Such reports containing information about the occurrence of ice, ice distribution, ice thickness etc, are provided in germany by bundesamt fur seeschifffahrt und hydrographie upon request. Long-term ice observations at stations along the entire baltic coast are used as a basis for the studies. An analysis of ice observation data covering the past 100 years also allows conclusions on climate fluctuations and trends in the western and southern baltic sea.
