Abstract: The effect of mitigating ice-induced vibrations by adding ice-breaking cone is approximately evaluated based on full-scale tests. The tests were conducted on vertical and conical structures at the same time. The displacement responses of the structures are recorded simultaneously and continuously. The failure processes of ice sheet acting on the two kinds of structure were also monitored by video camera. The dynamic behaviours of ice induced vibrations of vertical structure and conical structure are discussed. The test results reveal that more comprehensive work should be done in the subject of using ice-breaking cone to mitigate ice-induced vibrations on platform.
