Ice Flood in Northeast Region

Abstract: This paper discusses the classification, cause and character of ice flood. The damaged flood mainly caused by ice dam in Northeast Region China. Ice flood often happens on the upper reaches of Heilong River, the upper reaches of Nen River and lower reaches of Songhua River. The probability of the annual maximum water level appearing in ice flood period is 20 to 60 %, and the annual maximum water level can reach to 10 year or 50 year flood in main flood period, and in some region it even reaches to 100 year flood. Ice flood prevention and method of reducing damage are presented.
