Abstract: An experimental method to measure the non-linear fracture toughness J-integral of ice is presented. The photoelastic method and the speckle technique are used for measuring the stress and displacement field respectively. The fracture toughness of ice is obtained by the round-path defined J-integral. A group of specimens made of fresh water have been measured. the J-integral value by two different pathes are rather closed, the relative error is less than 6%.
