Abstract: An experimental study is conducted using six segmented conical structure models. The purpose of the study is to investigate a possibility to separate the ice force components experimentally. It is concluded unfortunately that perfect separation can not be done using the models in this concept. However, it is also concluded that a high approximation for the separation could be done by these segmented models provided that the ride up segment does not measure a force associated with the ice sheet failure. The experimental ice force components are compared with the calculated components by the Ralston's equation which is formulated by taking the anisotropy in the flexural strength of an ice sheet into account. The experimental breaking components fit well with the calculated breaking components and the experimental ride up components are generally smaller than the calculated ride up components.
