Abstract: Methods for estimating global first-year ice loads for Arctic offshore structures are presented. The derivation of global ice loads includes the effects of scale and non-simultaneous failure. A comparison between full scale global first-year ice load data and several scale dependent and nonsimultaneous failtue models is made. The effect of the structure width, velocity, ice thickness and confinement on the magnitude of global ice loads and pressures is examined.
