A Mathematical Model of the Ridge

Abstract: This paper examines the material characteristics of first-year ice ridges. A new model for the behaviour of porous layers of a ridge is suggested. This model is valid for elastic as well as for partially fractured ice material. Another model is suggested for the keel and the sail of a ridge. These parts of the ridge are considered here as mixed media, consisting ofice blocks, slush or water and air.
