Abstract: Ice dam often happens on the upper reaches of the Heilong river, and it has brought some damages in the area along the river. This article describes the general ice dam characteristics on the upper reaches of the Heilong river, analyses the geographic, river course, hydrometeorologic conditions needed for the ice dam formation and introduces about the present forecast and research situation of ice dam.
