Abstract: The river closure completed for this hydropower station at the end of 1994, Vast drift ice would have been dischargad from the two diversion tunnels with diameter of 12m during ice break up period in spring of 1995. In order to transfer ice safely, engineering and nonengineering measures had been taken during the construction period. For the engineering measures, the upper cofferdam had been reached the predetermined safe height based on the model test and blocking coefficient analysis of the diversion tunnel; for the non-engineering measures, the upper Jingpohu reservoir had been used to regulate water allocation, reduce the discharge during the ice breakup period and make the ice breakup smoothly; in addition, ice breaking measures had been adopted on the upper and down river courses of the inlet and outlet of the diversion tunnel before ice breakup, this ensured ice transfered safely for the hydropower station in spring of 1995.
