Abstract: This paper discusses the importance of ice problems related to the construction of hydraulic projects in cold area, in Liaoning province. Field investigation on water supply through natural rivers during ice period is described and the results of measurement were analyzed. Ice damages and Frost damages to rockfill dams with concrete face-plate are studied and ice pressures acting on structures using different fonnulas are compared.
