The Action of Ice Push Force Against the Dam and Slope Protection in Reservoirs

Abstract: In severe winter, the reservoirs freeze over and its surface is covered with ice slab in the northern region of China. When the temperature rises, the ice slab expands and produces ice push force against the dams and slope protections. Some of these hydro-structures are destroyed by this force. In this paper, the action of ice push force against dam and slope protection are calculated with finite element method. The results of calculation may provide reliable basis for the design of dam and for the reinforcement scheme of slope protection.
