Abstract: Building hydropower plants on river brings to variations in the distribution of discharge during the year, as well as to modification of morphological and hydraulic characteristics of the flow, its thermal and ice conditions at the water reservoirs. Calculations made for water reservoirs on the Volga cascade show that the amount of ice per 1 m3 of water at this river section is in average 2-3 times less than in natural conditions. This is one of the reasons provoking worsening water quality in regulated flows.
