Abstract: Laboratory tests, where crushed ice was compressed between two converging plates: an ice platen and a steel platen, are described. This set-up was used to model the interface between ice and an indentor. Local pressures as well as the total force were measured. The results are compared with theoretical models used to study ice extrusion.
