Abstract: A numerical sea ice thermodynamic forecasting model in the Bohai Sea is developed in this paper. The Bohai Sea is connected with the Huanghai Sea by the Bohai Strait, so the growth and decay of sea Ice in the Bohai Sea is affected by the Huanghai Sea warm Current (a branch of Kuroshio in the Huanghai Sea). Therefore, in this sea ice model, besides the solar radiation, long wave radiation, cloud cover, latent heat, sensible heat and heat conduction in sea ice cover are used, it is necessary to consider the advective heating effect by the current. The current data in the Bohal Sea are very rare, so the amounts of the advective heating effect are not calculated directly. Hence, based on the historical data of atmosphere, ocean and sea ice in the Bohai sea, the average values of advective heating effect of each calculated grid in the Bohai Sea on each decade are calculated as a residual term of the heat balance equation. The calculated average values of advective heating effect have an advantage over the given heating values in previous thermodynamic models. The hindcasting tests were carried out in a large number of his torical cases using the model and the test results were good. The period of validity was 10 days. The model can be used in the medium range sea ice forecasting operation.
