Abstract: In Northeast, Northwest and North China, the revetments of reservoirs are often damaged by the pushing of ice body and frost heaving. These seriously affect the safety and benefit of their operation. In addition, expenses on service and maintanace have been increased significantly. Based on many years' investigation, the Author discussed destruction pattern of several kinds of revetment common in engineering practice, such as turf, loose-stone, prefabricated concrete slabs and residual-oil concrete. And considering the reducing of ice pressure and the increasing of resistance to ice pressure, the Author introduced measures preventing the revetment from destruction.
