Abstract: An overview of the model ice in the NKK ICE MODEL BASIN is presented. The model ice presently in use is a urea-doped granular ice which is grown by a repetitive spraying method. The technique for producing this model ice is described in detail. The mechanical properties of the model ice including flexural strength, elastic modulus, uniaxial compressive strength and hardness are presented and discussed.
