Abstract: A new ice testing facility was constructed with an ice tank and a cold room. The ice tank is handy-sized in length but has a large cross-section, and is characterized by its forced air circulation system for freezing and tempering ice. To make an ice sheet with uniform thickness and strength distributions in the ice tank, investigations were made to find the most appropriate design solution by theoretical calculations and experiments. This paper describes the outline of the ice tank, the cold room, refrigerating system and investigations made in the course of the design.
