Abstract: In the present paper, the author will present a review to the available literature in ice engineering related to fracture mechanics and other available related literature which was originally developed for other materials and could be applied to ice engineering related problems. The author will also present flow diagrams for possible theoretical approaches to implement fracture mechanics information into the current methodologies of calculating design ice forces on arctic and offshore structures.
