Experimental Study of Ice Sluicing Trough the Diversion Tunnel of the Baishan Hydro-Power Project

Abstract: The similarity criteria of model test of ice condition during the ice disintegrating period is studied. The design of the model and the experimental results of ice sluicing through the diversion tunnel of the Baishan Hydroelectric Power Project during the construction period are described. The concept of 'jam coefficient "is presented to reflect the degree of jamming of the diversion tunnel. Based on the result of model test, the probable backwater elevation at the upper cofferdam is estimated for the designing period. Some problems about the ice model test are also discussed by comparison with the observed data from the prototype.
