Abstract: Effects of deep reservoirs on ice and thermal regimes of tailwaters are discussed. A physical model of ice and thermal processes is described as well as calculation methods for the determination of water temperatures, the frazil ice discharge, the length of polynya at the advance and retreat of the ice cover presented. The methods of ice and thermal processes control downstream from dams are suggested.
