Abstract: The planned development of water power in arctic areas with permafrost conditions has initiated investigations of ice formation on the walls of water tunnels excavated through rock with temperature below zero and with a water temperature at or near freezing point. The aim of the present paper is to analyze the problems from a theoretical point of view and to present the many parameters, which will influence the ice formation on the tunnel walls.
