Abstract: Two reports have been presented by this Working Group. The first was published in the Proceedings of the 3rd International Symposium on lce Problems, 1975 and focused on methods of carrying out uniaxial tension and compression tests. The second was published following the 4th International Symposium on lce Problems and concentrated on flexural testing with in situ cantilever beams, strain measurements in ice, an update on compression testing, and some initial thoughts on brine drainage and friction measurements. The two reports have been integrated in a recently published journal paper. The Working Group met at Trondheim in 1979 in connection with POAC and in Quebec in 1981 at the IAHR lce Symposium. The present report offers new recommendations on multiaxial testing and friction measurements, a test data sheet, and some initial observations on the influence of air content and machine stiffness on strength.
