Abstract: A theoretical and experimental investigation of the rupture pattern in front of an inclined wedge has been performed in order to determine the force fluctuations during the impact of a drifting ice floe. The present work is based on the pioneering studies and recommendations made by K. N. Korzhavin, presented in his thesis 'Action of ice on engineering structures'. A theoretical determination of the rupture pattern has, to the knowledge of the author, not previously been presented.
