Abstract: This paper describes a hydraulic model of the river debacle process including a decrease in the ice cover strength and an increment in water rates during spring melting. The model permits to compute (and predict) the time of break-up from the relationship of melting ice cover thickness and strength to the drawing force of a stream which is characterized by the hydraulic-morphometric parameters of a river reach.
