Abstract: In rivers with the production of frazil ice, there occurs in dam reservoir frazil accumulation, which impedes the water withdrawal from these reservoirs. To safeguard the operation of the intake, certain measures must be taken to control the inflow of frazil into the reservoir and to prevent the formation of frazil accumulation at the intake structures. The paper describes the solution to this problem by means of coffer dams made of rock material in the river Ohre to protect the pumping station, and summarizes the findings obtained during a two-year operation.
