Effects of Runoff Regulation

Abstract: Reservoir dams and barrages regulating runoff increased recently in both number and importance. Complex water projects and industrial water uses especially cooling water from large fuel-powered stations have brought about substantial changes in the thermal household of rivers. River canalisation has enhanced the significance of water traffic. Recent studies on the thermal household, control of ice movement, design of structures, as well as on the necessary protection against adverse ice effects are reviewed.
