Abstract: Code-compliant welding details may not be well understood by the engineering community and are often left up to pipe fabricators and welders. Engineering awareness of welding details, including code welding geometry, can contribute to the success of water industry projects. This paper will address code welding details required for mitered elbow compliance, including example calculations of welding bevels. In addition, a chart is provided, which details bevel angle versus rotation angle for mitered elbows with 60-degree single V-Groove welds for commonly occurring miter deflection angles (Δ) that vary from 1 to 60 degrees. This chart eliminates complex calculations, making code compliance easier for welders, thus providing a benefit to the water industry.
