Abstract: The origins of AWWA C207 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) ring flange design can be traced to integral flange design procedures developed in the 1940s. However, AWWA C207 publishes flange dimension tables without consideration of pipe wall thickness, and without providing equations or test data to support the tables. This paper discusses the history of AWWA C207 published tables and compares it with ASME BPVC ring flange calculations, and how that comparison affected a recent major water project in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
