Abstract: When fallen large wood flows into a reservoir, its specific gravity may exceed one with increasing wetted time and becomes submerged large wood. Such submerged large wood gradually moves toward the flood control gate and may affect the gate operation. We constructed a three-dimensional Euler-Lagrange coupling type computational model that can reproduce the flow structures and the dynamic behavior of submerged large in order to analyze how submerged wood moves in the reservoir and reaches to the gate during flooding. The created model was applied to a simplified rectangular reservoir model and the Susobana Dam in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and its validity was discussed.
