Abstract: This study focuses on the opening ratio (b/B) effect on discharge and discharge coefficient in sharp-crested weirs, where b represents the width of the weir opening, and B is the total width of the channel. To examine the effect of b/B, 32 tests were conducted on weirs with b/B ratios of 7/24,8/24,9/24, and 10/24, in a flume 4 m long, 0.6 m wide, and 0.2 m high in a hydraulic laboratory at Babol Noshirvani University of Technology, with discharges ranging from 0.7 to 4.9 L/s. The results demonstrate that Cd decreases slightly as the weir width (b) increases, indicating that larger weirs are less efficient at passing flow. The maximum and minimum discharge coefficient values are 0.591 and 0.625, associated with b/B=8/24 and 10/24, respectively. Furthermore, the minimum and maximum average discharge coefficient (Cd) ave values are 0.595 and 0.621, corresponding to b/B ratios of 8/24 and 10/24, respectively.
